The Cajun restaurant at 7447 W. 21st St. recently started serving an a la carte breakfast. It's offered daily from 7 to 11 a.m. Among the items on the menu:
1. St. Charles crepes: Three crepes filled with scrambled eggs, country ham, sauteed mushrooms and cheese then topped with New Orleans butter cream sauce. Served with biscuits and tomatoes for $7.79.
2. Acadia omelet: Andouille sausage, onions, peppers and cheese with spicy Creole sauce. Served with choice of cottage fries or jalapeno grits plus toast or two biscuits for $7.49.
3. Bayou beignets: The "back country" version of the traditional Louisiana breakfast bakery treat, covered in powdered sugar. They're $2.79 for a small order, $5.29 for large.
4. Cafe au lait: The traditional milky New Orleans coffee drink, pressed at the table for $3.49 with free refills on regular coffee.
A GOOD DEAL
Panera is the latest winner of the Positive Plate Award, an honor created by local dietitians to highlight restaurants that "make healthy eating easy and delicious by following dietary guidelines." The group of dietitians praised the restaurant's whole grain bread choices, low-fat side dish options and healthy kids meal offerings.

New Eaton chef
A new executive chef has started work at the Eaton Steakhouse, 523 E. Douglas. Robert Moore, who has 40 years of culinary experience, has worked in several kitchens around Kansas, most recently at the Candle Club. He will focus on refining the restaurant's classic dishes and creating a few new ones, utilizing locally grown produce and organic meats.
Ultimate porker
Jimmy John's, the sub chain at 340 N. Rock Road, has just added its first new sandwich in four years. The Ultimate Porker Club is made with applewood smoked ham and bacon with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Jimmy John's customers are asked to help submit a new slogan for the sandwich on the company's Web site. The winner will earn a catered party.
