FEDERAL WAY, Wash., April 14 (UPI) -- Two middle school students were arrested for allegedly putting a vomit-inducing drug in their art teacher's coffee, say police in Federal Way, Wash.
The two suspects at Sequoyah Middle School were expelled and arrested Monday after their teacher fell seriously ill and was hospitalized, reported KOMO-TV in Seattle.
The students, who were seen near the teacher's desk shortly before she took a sip of her coffee, allegedly confessed to adding the vomit-inducing syrup Ipecac to the coffee, said Diane Turner, a school spokeswoman.
"I can't speculate at this time what the students were thinking," Turner told KOMO-TV. "What I can tell you is there are consequences for behavior and we have to hold our students accountable."
The teacher, whose name wasn't released, was expected to recover.
As of Monday, no charges had been filed against the students, whose names weren't released, said detectives who were investigating the case.
